Quickline Digital Skills: Bringing Learning to Life Through Interactive Design

In today’s digital-first world, static presentations just don’t cut it. That’s why, when we partnered with broadband provider Quickline to create an engaging digital skills programme for students and young people, we knew we needed to push the boundaries of design. Instead of relying on traditional tools like PowerPoint, our design team embraced the power of Adobe InDesign to craft an interactive, immersive learning experience tailored to three key audiences: Primary, Secondary, and Post-16 learners.

Why interactive design matters

Research shows that dynamic and animated visuals significantly enhance retention and comprehension. Studies suggest that audiences are 43% more likely to understand and remember information when it’s presented through animation rather than static slides. Additionally, interactive elements can boost engagement by up to 50%, making them a game-changer in educational content delivery.

With these insights in mind, our Design Team set out to develop a programme that wasn’t just informative but truly engaging. Using InDesign’s advanced features, we created presentations that were more than just slides—they were interactive learning experiences.

The power of InDesign in digital learning

This project marked the first time we leveraged InDesign to create fully interactive digital presentations, and the results were transformative. Here’s how we made it happen:

  • Tailored visual design: We developed distinct design styles for each audience while maintaining a cohesive Quickline brand identity. This ensured the content felt relevant and engaging for learners of all ages.
  • Clickable navigation & quizzes: Unlike traditional PDFs, which are static, InDesign enabled us to incorporate clickable buttons for seamless navigation. We also built interactive quizzes, such as multiple-choice activities, making learning more hands-on.
  • Dynamic layouts & animated elements: Using InDesign’s Publish Online feature, we brought content to life with animations that reinforced key learning points and guided users through the materials.
  • Embedded media for a richer experience: Unlike standard PDFs, our InDesign-powered presentations could seamlessly integrate videos, animations, and external media, enhancing the depth and quality of the learning experience.
  • Live updates & real-time edits: Digital publishing’s flexibility allowed us to make real-time updates based on Quickline’s feedback, ensuring the materials remained relevant and up to date.

Interactive activities that challenge & engage

We didn’t stop at making content visually appealing—we designed interactive exercises that actively engaged learners in developing their digital skills. These included:

  • Guessing common passwords to highlight cybersecurity best practices.
  • Spotting differences in phishing emails to teach online safety awareness.
  • Identifying fake or AI-generated images to promote digital literacy and critical thinking.

By blending innovative design with interactive learning techniques, we not only created an engaging programme but also set a new standard for how digital skills training can be delivered. This project has since influenced how we approach digital content for all our clients, proving that design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about transforming the way people learn.

Looking ahead

The success of Quickline Digital Skills has opened new doors for how we approach learning projects. Our use of InDesign’s interactive capabilities has set a precedent for future educational initiatives, reinforcing the idea that well-designed, dynamic content can make a lasting impact.
